Now, those efforts will ramp up significantly and the President will likely hold one on one meetings before announcing his pick.<br \/>\nThe White House is stacked with officials deeply familiar with the confirmation process, starting with Biden himself \u2014 who chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee \u2014 as well as White House chief of staff Ron Klain, who has experience both at the White House counsel\u2019s office and working for the Senate Judiciary Committee.\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21023\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21023\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21023 td-animation-stack-type0-2 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/secureservercdn.net\/45.40.146.38\/thq.cd2.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/220126124137-screengrab-breyer-replacement-canddates-exlarge-169-e1643226825350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"780\" height=\"438\" \/><\/figure>\n<p data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_FBCFB4A5-46C9-BB38-4212-976235318296\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_0\">Photo Credit CNN<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"el__leafmedia el__leafmedia--sourced-paragraph\">\nWith Democrats holding the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/01\/11\/politics\/one-party-control-white-house-congress\/index.html\">narrowest of majorities<\/a>\u00a0in the upper chamber, Biden will have to choose someone who can safely get 50 votes in the Senate (Vice President Kamala Harris could provide the tie-breaking vote if the Senate is split on the nomination). In addition to the vote count, Biden also has to keep an eye on the calendar. Senate Republicans are likely to retake the chamber in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/01\/25\/politics\/mitch-mcconnell-midterm-strategy\/index.html\">this year\u2019s midterms<\/a>\u00a0and have already signaled they would block a Biden nominee to the Supreme Court. It typically takes two to three months for a President to see his nominee confirmed by the Senate once he or she is named. The most recent justice, however, was confirmed in just a month and a half, as Senate Republicans rushed to get\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/10\/26\/politics\/senate-confirmation-vote-supreme-court-amy-coney-barrett\/index.html\">Justice Amy Coney Barrett<\/a>\u00a0approved before the 2020 election.<br \/>\nGiven the disappointments that have been recently dealt to the progressives under the Biden administration \u2014 between the congressional demise of the President\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/20\/politics\/joe-biden-build-back-better-setback-explained\/index.html\">Build Back Better<\/a>proposal and his failure to find a way forward on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/01\/19\/politics\/senate-voting-legislation-filibuster\/index.html\">\u00a0voting rights legislation\u00a0<\/a>\u2014 Biden\u2019s choice for the Supreme Court gives him the opportunity to reinvigorate the democratic base.
