\n\u201cThough He was delivered up according to God\u2019s determined plan and foreknowledge\u2026.<\/em><\/strong>
\nGod raised Him up, ending the pains of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by death.<\/em><\/strong>
\nGod has raised this Jesus; we are all witnesses of this.\u201d\u00a0 (Acts 2:23a ;24; 32a CSB)<\/em><\/strong>
\n\u00a0<\/em>
\nAll history has a connecting link or an inner logic and meaning.\u00a0 The connecting link of history is found in a person and contained in the life and work of Jesus Christ. \u201cHe is before all things, and by Him all things hold together\u201d (Colossians 1:17).\u00a0 His connecting link of history and more particularly Christian events should be traced and remembered during Holy Week.
\nThere can be no life without the life-giver. So, the first link to recall is The<\/em> Life of Jesus<\/em>.\u00a0 His simple humanity and entrance into human existence as Jesus of Nazareth.\u00a0 The Gospel of Matthew informs us, \u201cShe will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins\u201d (Matthew 1:21). Though poor and despised of men, the favor of God was upon Him.\u00a0 The proof was in the energy that emanated from Him and demonstrated through mighty works, powers, and wonders.\u00a0 These signs claimed our attention and pointed to who He was.
\nThe next connecting link is The Destiny of Jesus to Die<\/em>.\u00a0 Just as there can be no life without the life-giver, there can be no comprehension of truth without the embodiment of Truth.\u00a0 To the superficial observer, or one not having Divine assistance to connect the links, it might appear like Jesus perished like any other man.\u00a0 A mere victim of His time, but this was not the truth.\u00a0 The Divine logic of history is that the death of Jesus was no accident.\u00a0 It was grounded in the law of moral order, what we refer to as a Divine necessity.\u00a0 An event that had to come to pass.
\nThe third link is The Raising of Jesus<\/em>.\u00a0 God\u2019s hand released Him from the grasp of death.\u00a0 Here again was the operation of a necessary Divine law.\u00a0 It was impossible that He would be overcome by death.\u00a0 He was and is the very affirmation of life. \u201cA thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.\u00a0 I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance\u201d (John 10:10).
\nFinally, we come to final link, The Exaltation of Jesus<\/em>. Acts 2:33 says He was \u201cExalted to the right hand of God.\u201d\u00a0 And verse 36 declares, \u201cGod has made this Jesus<\/em> whom you crucified, both Lord <\/em>and Christ<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 In reference to this powerful pronouncement, Alexander Maclaren, said there are three names by which we designate our Savior \u2013 Jesus, Lord, and Christ.\u00a0 To most they are very little more than proper names.\u00a0 In fact, during His lifetime and even now to say, \u2018Jesus is the Christ\u2019 is considered folly and to say, \u2018Jesus is Lord\u2019, blasphemous. The three names are names of the same person, but they proclaim altogether different aspects of His work and character.\u00a0 The name Jesus is the name of the man and brings to us a Brother; the name Christ is an office title and brings to us a Redeemer; and the name Lord is the name of dignity and brings to us a King.
\n\u201cFor this reason, God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father\u201d (Philippians 2:9-11).
