\nVoting should be easy, but that wasn\u2019t the case for many in the 2020 elections. People faced fear around the safety of voting in person during a pandemic, long lines, inaccessible ballot drop boxes, and mail-in ballots that didn\u2019t show up. The list of unnecessary barriers to voting last year was long, and we\u2019re now seeing state legislatures in 43 states put up even more roadblocks to voting.<\/strong>
\nElected officials have a long history of using countless excuses to make voting more difficult in our country, and very few repairs have been made to the damage that has done to our democracy. But, we have a chance to fix that right now. We can be a part of making our country a true democracy — and it starts with the For the People Act.<\/strong>

As a refresher: The For the People Act is a piece of legislation that recently passed in the House of Representatives and is now being considered in the Senate. It\u2019s the most expansive voting and civil rights legislation since the 1965 Voting Rights Act, and would help stop voter suppression in its tracks.
\nThe progress we need to make on civil rights, income inequality, gender equity — every issue we face today as a nation — starts with equality at the ballot box. We cannot sit out and watch as state legislatures pass bills to create barriers to casting a vote. We cannot ignore the blatant, repeated attacks on voting rights throughout our country. The future of our democracy depends on us taking action together right now.<\/strong>
